Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Different Strokes, LLC (“Different Strokes,” “we,” “us”), governing your use of the Different Strokes website and app (the “Service”). By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

Different Strokes is a peer-support community for stroke survivors, caregivers, significant others, family members, therapists, and others directly connected to someone’s stroke recovery. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. New profiles are reviewed by an administrator before becoming visible to other members; we may decline or remove any application or account at our discretion.

You’re responsible for the accuracy of the information on your profile and for keeping your login credentials secure. One account per person. Please select the stroke/injury type that actually matches you — or, if you’re a caregiver, significant other, family member, or therapist, the type that matches the person you’re here to support — rather than an arbitrary answer.

By joining, you agree to:

• Keep religion and politics off the platform. This is a space for healing, not debate.
• Not solicit. Don’t advertise, sell, or promote products, services, or businesses of any kind.
• Be respectful. Harassment, bullying, and hate speech will result in removal.
• Not give medical advice. Share your personal experience, not diagnoses or treatment prescriptions — always consult a licensed professional.
• Protect other members’ privacy. Never share someone else’s personal information without their explicit consent.
• Not post spam, scams, or fraudulent content.

You own the posts, photos, messages, and other content you create on Different Strokes. By posting it, you give us a limited license to store, display, and distribute it within the Service so other members can see and interact with it as intended (for example, a feed post is shown to other members; a private message is shown only to its recipient). You’re solely responsible for what you post, and it must comply with the Community Rules above and applicable law.

Private messaging requires the other member’s consent — a message request must be accepted before a conversation begins. You can block any member at any time, which prevents them from messaging you and hides their content from you.

We may review reported content, and may remove content, suspend, or permanently terminate any account that violates these Terms or the Community Rules, at our discretion and without prior notice, to keep the community safe.

You may permanently close your account at any time from Settings. We may also suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what happens to your data and content when an account is closed.

Different Strokes is a peer-support community, not a medical provider. Nothing on this Service — including member stories, forum discussions, therapy exercise suggestions, or nutrition information — is medical advice or a substitute for care from a qualified healthcare professional. Always consult your doctor or a licensed professional before making decisions about your health, exercise, or diet, especially given conditions like swallowing difficulty, diabetes, kidney disease, or blood thinners.

Pages like Resources, Nutrition, Research, and the embedded Therapy videos link to or display content from third-party organizations (for example, the American Heart Association, NIH, or YouTube). We don’t control and aren’t responsible for third-party websites or content, and linking to them isn’t an endorsement of everything they publish.

The Different Strokes name, logo, and site design belong to Different Strokes, LLC. You may not copy or reuse them without our permission. You retain ownership of your own content as described in Section 5.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don’t guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular outcome will result from using it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Different Strokes, LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including anything posted by other members or any decision made based on information found here.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, let members know.
